Thirteen year-old Dane Mackie, one of the Caribbean’s top junior surfers, has caught the attention of international surfboard and apparel manufacturer …Lost Enterprises and is being sponsored by the California-based company.
Mackie, a student of St Winifred’s, has been creating waves on the local and international circuit over the past two years and was hand-picked by …Lost to join its team of surfers.
According to executives of the company, Mackie’s passion, personality and dedication created a perfect combination of qualities to be a great ambassador for …Lost and a true champion of the sport.
“I am really happy to have been chosen by …Lost” said Mackie, who is also sponsored by the JADA Group of Barbados.
“They are one of the most progressive and exciting surf companies and I am proud to represent them”.
Better known as ‘Great Dane’ on the international circuit, Mackie has showcased his outstanding ability on the local and international stage and is equipped with a range of impressive manoeuvres that defy his age.
In the Easter and Summer of 2010, Mackie competed in several overseas contests and made it to seven finals.
Among his best performances were first place (12-14 age group) at the National Kidney Foundation Pro Am Surfing Festival in September 2010, and second (14 and under) at the 46th Annual Pro Am Easter Festival in Florida. He also finished fifth in the 18 & Under Pro divisions at that same event.
Mackie also represented Barbados at the ISA Junior World Championships in Peru in May where his team finished 49th in the world in the Under 16 Division.
He will be attending a number of overseas contests this year where he will showcase his raw talent and seek to improve his international rating.
