Multiple winners Combermere of Barbados and English Grammar School Lancaster Royal will contest the final of the Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament today at Kensington Oval.
Yesterday, the second day of the semi-finals which were drawn out because of rain on Monday, Combermere eased to a six-wicket win over Ellerslie at Bank Hall, while Lancaster edged defending champions Queen’s Park of Trinidad by one wicket at the Brewery.
Combermere were powered to victory by a captain’s knock of 45 by Shane Moseley which helped them to 113-4 in 18 overs, overhauling Ellerslie’s 109 all out, made on Monday.
At the Brewery, defending champions Queen’s Park, resuming on a precarious 128-7 overnight – thanks to Stefan Wharwood’s 59 – battered the Lancaster attack.
Nyron Ryan (31) and Jean Paul Garcia (21) slammed 40 off the remaining five overs, setting the Lancs boys 169 to win.
The English schoolboys lost wickets regularly but, led by skipper Mark Walling’s 45 and Jack Browne’s 37 not out, they closed in on the target.
With scores tied and with one ball remaining, Lancaster got the winning single.
The final bowls off at 11 a.m., and organizers are specially inviting all summer camps to come to historic oval for this 25th edition of the tournament. (BA/PR)
