Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite has lashed out at British newspapers for accusing Barbados of under-reporting crime.
“I am aware that Barbados has been accused by some sections of the British Press of being less than honest in its reporting of crimes. I wish to make it absolutely clear that this is not true,” Brathwaite said yesterday while addressing a two-day pan-Caribbean police conference sponsored by the British High Commission.
He added: “Indeed, it is my knowledge that where there are incidents of crime involving visitors to our island the highest priority is given to these cases and we offer no apology for this stance.”
Brathwaite said a crime desk managed by well-trained police officers gave the highest possible priority to visitors once a crime was involved. (AH/TS)
