Representatives of several organisations to which the late Captain Crofton “Roy” Corbin devoted time and gave leadership, celebrated his life at his funeral service at the Mount of Praise Wesleyan Holiness Church at Tudor Bridge today.
Uniformed members of the Barbados Defence Force, the Barbados Cadet Corps, the Barbados Red Cross, several musicians, clergy and politicians were among the capacity gathering of mourners attending the service at which comforting music by the Wesleyan Holiness Church choir, Charlie Austin, a wind quartet and the Zouave band of the Barbados defence Force which he once led, wafted through the sanctuary.
The former Pic-O-De-Crop judge, was also a soldier and fellow soldier Captain Dennis Browne in his tribute shared experiences of their lives as the two officers in Cadet Corps at the time “with years of full-time military service” and experience. Browne said the friendship they cultivated “grew into mutual respect and appreciation for things military.”
The former secondary school teacher was also an avid farmer and assisted with the sheep project at the Grantley Adams Memorial School while serving as a committee member of the Barbados Agricultural Society. Farmer Vincent Layne spoke of Corbin’s devotion to farming and the mentorship of other farmers like himself.
The funeral service was conducted by the Reverend Dr. McAthin Hinds of the Mount of Praise Wesleyan Holiness Church where Corbin worshipped. Interment took place in the Military Cemetery.
