It was a wet Grand Kadooment this year and yet the rain did not stop the revellers and masqueraders from playing mas from?Warrens to?the Spring Garden Highway on Monday.
Neither did it stop the thousands of onlookers, the young, the old and even mothers with infants in arms.
It was an occasion on which Barbadians did not run from the rain.
Overall there was not anything new at this year’s festival that was not at other festivals.?As usual, too many of the females in the bands had too much of their bodies exposed.?What are we going to do about it?
That was not all. There were too many sexually suggestive actions displayed by both males and females on the route.?What do they say when they see their photographs in the newspaper?
To me there were so many alcoholic beverages served by those on the trucks and those along the route. It was a real “Alcohol Affair”.
While there I was able to perform a part of my priestly duty.
There were a number of young men between the ages of 13 and 16 who were drinking alcoholic beverages and I was able to counsel them right there on the spot, and they adhered to my counselling although they were not aware that I was a clergyman because I was not dressed like a clergyman.
As priests, pastors and Christians we must not isolate ourselves from a festival like Kadooment for I am sure that we can win a soul. Who knows?
We must remember that Christ ministered to sinners wherever they were. Jesus said that we must go after the lost sheep and he is a Jesus of forgiveness.
“I desire mercy and not sacrifice.?For I came to call not the righteous but sinners.” (Matthew 9:13/Hosea 6:6) I was very pleased with the security, which was very tight, especially when it came to the Roberts Manufacturing Band, which I call the All-Purpose Band. Those who were responsible must be congratulated.
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Popsicle on being crowned Calypso Monarch for 2011.
But I would like to know what went wrong with Kid Site. Kid Site, good luck next time.
