Toni husbands: ‘Size doesn’t matter’

What is your greatest childhood memory?
I would say that everyone in my neighbourhood always knew when I was not at home. My great-grandmother when she saw a certain time and I was not back home she would yell at the top of her voice, “Toni, Toni come home”. I would hurry to get in before she would yell again and my cousins and friends would tease me.

What keeps me passionate . . .
Is the thought that somewhere out there a full-figured woman is feeling better about herself because of what I do – displaying being full-figured in a positive light. Her self esteem is raised and her confidence as well because she knows that she is beautiful no matter what size she is.

What is your most precious moment?
My most precious moment was on March 7, 2003 when I produced my first show. The realisation that my dream came to life on  the stage and was appreciated by all who attended was a moment I would never forget. This event raised my self- confidence and showed me  that anything is possible when you have the determination and faith to try something new. Some patrons said to me who have attended my show over the years that the first show was one if not the best.

 My biggest regret?
I love to sing and I would say that my biggest regret was that I never pursued a career in it when I was a teenager. I guess as you get older the nerves begin to kick in. So far now I have to settle with just singing in the bathroom.

 A life-changing moment happened when . . .
I got married. I became a wife. My husband became my calm in a storm. He is more laid back and he showed me how to accept thngs as they are and not stress. I still get flustered at times to be honest but not as I was before. Things that would bother me don’t bother me anymore. Those that are close to me said that I have changed.
My most treasured possessions are. ..
That is a hard question because I believe that everything I own is precious because I worked hard for them. But if I had to choose I would say my jewellery, hair and my clothes because they are what makes me feel and look sexy.

The person who has made the biggest impact on my life . . .
Is my mum. My dad is Trinidadian and he was not there when I was growing up and she filled that void.  She has always been there through the good and the bad. She prays with me when I am feeling down and she encourages me to go after what makes me happy. She is always there with a listening ear when I need one.  I do not know what I would have become if she was not there.

 How did I ever exist without . . .
A car. Being a producer of a show and having to attend meetings and getting stuff done especially when the show is approaching. Having transportation even though gas has risen is an asset. You can go anywhere anytime with a car and I love it!!

What I love most about myself now is . . .
The fact that I do not get flustered as I used to. A lot of things that would bother me I let slide.  I have learnt that everything happens for a reason and there is light at the end of each tunnel. I love the fact that I look in the mirror and love what I see. Being full-figured I suffered from low self esteem as I was not this size growing up. I just love being someone who keeps it real and loves life. My motto for life is “Love yourself, take care of yourself but most of all be true to yourself”.
