BARP concerned about crime

THE PRESIDENT of the Barbados Association of Retired Persons Edward Bushell has expressed alarm at the increase in the incidence of crime in the island, according to a Press release issued today.
Bushell, who was elected at BARP’s recent annual general meeting, “is concerned that a number of elderly persons have been the victim of such crimes”, the association said.
“He is urging all residents of Barbados and particularly elderly persons who live alone to ensure that their homes are properly secured at all times,” it added.
“While noting that Barbados, like the rest of the world, is in recession and (this) can give rise to criminal activity, he is advising householders to take the necessary precautions to safeguard their properties.
“While observing that there has been a gradual decrease in neighbourhood watches, persons should still be conscious of who their neighbours are, especially when they are elderly.”
BARP said visitors to Barbados should also be vigilant “at all times”, even though Barbados is a paradise. (PR/TY)
