THE?Barbados senior men’s football team got a much-needed confidence booster ahead of their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign with an easy 4-0 win over neighbours St Lucia on Sunday night at the National Stadium.
It was the first win for new coach Colin “Potato” Forde, who has been at the helm from the start of year, after suffering near losses to Guyana earlier in May (1-0, 3-2) and NCAA Division One team Bradley University (2-0), followed by home draws with St Vincent and the Golden Jaguars.
The Tridents welcomed back former captain Norman Forde into their midfield and he made his presence felt as he carved open the St Lucian defence a number of times with precise passes, feeding strikers Riviere Williams and Mario Harte.
His club mate Dwayne “Boot” Griffith had an impressive debut on the right flank and showed no signs of a debutant, as he linked up well in midfield and showed tireless effort in defence. (RG)
