MORE YOUNG people are turning up daily for meals at the Salvation Army’s Reed Street Centre.
Major Denzil Walcott, public relations officer and disaster services co-ordinator at the Salvation Army, told the DAILY?NATION: “We are seeing about 16 to 17 young people daily who are in their late teens and at times the numbers increase.”
He said 134 people were fed daily, an increase of 16 compared with last year and that included 34 whose meals were delivered.
Walcott said: “The Salvation Army cannot turn away people who are in need, so in addition to the feeding programme we are now packing 160 hampers monthly (40 weekly) with items given from companies across the island for the needy.” (JG)
