“Top management” at the Barbados National Bank (BNB) has made a positive response to the call of deputy general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union, Robert “Bobby” Morris, to get serious about pay negotiations.
Morris, in a telephone interview with the MIDWEEK NATION, revealed that “top management” had spoken with him after seeing yesterday’s DAILY NATION lead story, and asked the union “to give them some time before getting back to the table”.
Morris said that since the union had had a long and respectful relationship with the bank, there was no problem in accepting the request, and the expectation was that the bank would “come back ready to negotiate seriously” when next it met at the table.
“We got what we wanted because we now have the attention of top management. We’ve always had a very good relationship with the BNB. It’s just that this particular negotiation is moving too slow.
“All we want is a settlement that is in keeping with what other banks have agreed to,” he stated.
