Devere wins big

SINGER DEVERE Gittens was not the tallest of them. But he got the better of them when he copped top spot in the third preliminary of the 2011 Richard Stoute Teen Talent  contest held at the Plantation Garden Theatre last night.
Gittens was one of the eleven, in the senior category, vying for positions to secure a place in the semifinals and hoping to move a little closer to winning the  big prize of a car in the finals.
Doing Chris Brown’s Crawl and John Legend’s Ordinary People, Gittens knew where he wanted to go  and made up  for  his average voice with charismatic stage  presence,  creativity [crowd interaction]  scoring 625 points in the process.
Third place went to Sade Lampitt for her rendition of Dreaming of You and Because of You. She scored 603 points.
Cherish Maynard’s vocal range is impressive  as heard in Chasing Pavements and If I Ain’t You. But the judges were clearly looking for additional stuff because they put her third with 594 points. One could agree, however, that the latter song was not handled with the vocal expertise as happened in Chasing Pavements.
