Lynch: We need a crime dialogue

Archdeacon Eric Lynch of the Anglican church is calling for a national dialogue on crime.
And he advocates solutions that focus on restorative justice rather than retributive justice.
Delivering the sermon at the annual service marking the opening of the legal year at Mary’s Anglican Church yesterday morning, Archdeacon Lynch said while there were people in the society exhibiting unacceptable behaviour, stigma and discrimination should not be the approach to dealing with them.
In his view a materialistic culture was at the heart of the problem Barbados was facing with crime, and he suggested the time had come to bring together representative social agencies and faith-based organisations for discussion of the problem and to structure goals for the rehabilitation of the society.
