More?than a dozen patients at the Geriatric Hospital have been afflicted with bedsores, and the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) is calling for the Ministry of Health to investigate the matter.
NUPW?assistant general secretary Roslyn Smith told the MIDWEEK?NATION that many of those who had been affected in the elderly health care institution were on Ward 4B.
“This is a cry for help from staff who are advocates for patients. The Ministry of Health really needs to investigate what’s happening at the Geriatric Hospital regarding patient care. People can die of bedsores, so this is a situation the union views very seriously. This is a hospital that is known for the quality of its health care . . . . Now that this is happening, it tells me that something has gone awry,” she said.
Smith was of the view that patient care was suffering because of limited staffing and poor rostering.
