Tropical Storm Maria is still on track to swipe the Eastern Caribbean, plow through Puerto Rico, and head on up through the Bahamas toward Florida
The weather forecast for Barbados tonight is fair to partly cloudy with a few scattered showers.
Tomorrow is expected to be generally cloudy to overcast with pockets of moderate to heavy showers, isolated thunderstorms and occasional gusty winds.Â
The seas are expected to be moderate to rough in open water with swells of 2.5 – 3.0 metres. A small craft warning is in effect for above normal sea swells.
At 8pm the centre of Tropical Storm Maria was located near latitude 13.2 north longitude 53.6 west. Maria was moving westward at speeds near 33 km/h. This general motion is expected to continue tonight followed by a turn toward the west-northwest with a decrease in forward speed on Friday. The centre of Maria will be near the Leeward Islands late tomorrow and moving over the northeastern Caribbean Sea on Saturday.
Maximum sustained winds were near 65 km/h with higher gusts. Maria is forecast to weaken to a tropical depression during the next day or two while moving across the Leeward Islands and the Eastern Caribbean Sea.
