BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Residents in the Windward islands were advised to monitor the movement of an area of low pressure that has a “high chance” of becoming a tropical storm or even a hurricane over the next few days.
The Miami-based National Hurricane Center (NHC) said that the system, located 1,450 miles east of the Windward Islands continues to show signs of organization and “environmental conditions appear favourable for the development of a tropical depression during the next couple of days”.
NHC said that “this system has a high chance of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours as it begins to move westward at about 10 miles per hour(mph). It said that thunderstorm activity is limited in association with a small area of low pressure located about 900 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands, but that conditions are not favourable for significant development.
The Windward Islands comprise Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
