Make room for Mia

OWEN ARTHUR is more concerned with getting Jerome Walcott elected as chairman of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) than making space for Mia Mottley, says political analyst Peter Wickham.
“Right now, what he [Arthur] needs to do, is to make space for her in some way, and I think that he had a golden opportunity which he has squandered,” said Wickham, who thinks that Mottley has been given a raw deal on the BLP chairmanship issue via changes to the rules.
“He is essentially pushing her away further and further; and by doing so he is driving a rift; and the rift is now public knowledge, and it is unfortunate.”
Wickham’s comments came yesterday in the wake of Mottley’s withdrawing from the BLP?chairmanship race and accusing her party of disenfranchising some members by preventing them from being counted when the number of delegates for the conference was being determined. (MK)
