Honey Jam next month

Opportunity will come knocking for young Barbadian women with talent when auditions for the 2011 edition of Honey Jam are held on Tuesday, October 4.
The showcase, the first step on the road to stardom, is scheduled for the Plantation Garden Theatre and will target young singers representing all genres of music.
And they have only one minute to impress!
A panel of judges comprising local artistes, music industry reps, vocal coaches, managers, radio personalities and others will mark each artiste and those who make it will be contacted later that week.
According to director Ebonnie Rowe, Honey Jam is a platform for young women to gain exposure and benefit from the educational, mentoring and networking opportunities available in the music industry and arts community.
Along with the artiste’s workshop and showcase, Honey Jam also promotes women’s charities and also offers opportunities to female entrepreneurs.
The concept was introduced to Barbados earlier this year as A Taste of Honey Jam and featured young local female artistes, including popular teen country singer Malissa Alanna.
“The artistes were also given the opportunity to attend a free industry session which gave them valuable information and advice about their careers. So far, there has been good response with lots of artistes interested in trying out,” Rowe added.
Asked to comment about the successes of those who were part of A Taste Of Honey Jam, she said she learned through Facebook that Alanna had recently returned from Nashville.
“After the show, I booked a number of them to perform at the COSCAP Foundation gala in April, and I know others like Nikki Nicole Browne have been booked for other performances.
“And Sarah Mark flew to Canada to work with a producer who heard about her from someone who saw her at the Barbados show,” she said. (MH)
