PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad – Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar is expected to leave the private St Clair Medical Center on Thursday after spending the night there for observation after she was rushed to the institution complaining of feeling unwell on Wednesday.
Education Minister Dr Tim Gopeesingh, a medical practitioner, who visited the 60-year-old Prime Minister told reporters that she would remain at the medical institution on the outskirts of the capital for 24 hours after she had been taken there complaining of feeling “dizzy”.
A brief statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister soon after she had been admitted to the hospital said that she had undergone “medical assessment, examinations and evaluation”.
But a later statement indicated that the results “have not yet been received” noting that “the Prime Minister has been on a hectic schedule over the past two months during which time she continued to work through a bout of dengue from which she is still recovering”
Dr Gopeesingh X-rays had also been done on her right swollen foot which he said had been caused by two cans containing food falling on it several days ago.
“There are no fractions just tissue swelling,” he told reporters, adding “she is resting comfortably”.
Dr Gopeesingh was one of several ministers that visited the Prime Minister and according to the statement she “has expressed her appreciation for all the concern and support she has received from members of the public”
Last month, the Prime Minister was diagnosed with dengue fever. (CMC)
