Some?private daycares are operating without appropriate permission, Chief Town Planner Mark Cummins said yesterday.
He told the WEEKEND?NATION during a telephone interview that that was why his department had served a “stop notice” on First Steps Academy, a nursery and preschool located at Neil’s Plantation, St Michael.
Responding to complaints from principal, Telia Wilkinson that the school had been deemed to be illegally operating and had been served notices from both the Town & Planning Department and the Child Care Board even though she had submitted all of her applications, Cummins said the application was only received by the department on July 19.
“The record shows that the day nursery at Neil’s Plantation submitted the application on July 19 and it is still being processed. What is also important to note is that Miss Wilkinson has carried out development without the necessary planning permission,” Cummins stated.
