Bajan music and talent will be celebrated when the Frank Collymore Hall presents City Nights 2011 – A Season Of Music this coming weekend.
From Friday to next Sunday, City Nights will feature some of the island’s best talent. Opening the series will be 1688 Orchestra, a band of graduates and present musicians of the Barbados Community College (BCC), led by Stefan Walcott, bringing the big band sound to the stage.
On Saturday, the sultry-voiced Carole George, the irrepressible Marisa Lindsay, the soulful Paula Hinds and the dynamic Tamara Marshall will team up for Ladies Night.
The season climaxes with Classical Night where recently returned locally and internationally trained classical singer Dionne Timothy will be accompanied by Dario Brewster.
They will perform along with award-winning pianist Marilyn Smith, another product of the BCC.
The Barbados Chamber Orchestra, flautist Dexter Norville and pianist/organist Eric Cobham will also be part of the show.
City Nights was inaugurated on September 18, 1986, to coincide with the opening of the Central Bank’s new headquarters building and the Frank Collymore Hall.
Fran Wickham, manager of the Hall, stated: “This programme of events is designed to provide a stimulant for our musicians during these harsh economic times, as well as to bring enjoyment to one and all . . . . These are shows not to be missed.”
The Friday and Saturday shows begin at 8 p.m., and Sunday’s at 7 p.m. (PR)
