Dear Christine,
I am a young mother in need of help. I am so depressed right now that I am afraid of losing my sanity.
All I want is to be able to provide food, clothing and shelter for my daughter. She will be two years old this month. We lost our home and almost everything else when Tomas struck last year.
I have been to agencies seeking help, but have just been waiting.
I don’t know how much longer I can wait. I am used to being independent and it hurts my heart to see that I cannot get back a piece of land for rent so that the Rural Development can give us back a roof over our heads.
Things have just not been the same since losing the house. I have been moving from place to place, since most places could not accommodate us for long periods. I was grateful, however, to those who helped us.
Currently, I am staying with a friend and her family. It’s not the most comfortable place, but I am glad she allowed me to stay with her.
I hope that anyone who has available land for rent would kindly contact me. I will be most grateful and appreciative.
– Desperate Mum in Need
Dear Desperate Mum In Need,
I want to encourage you to hang in there and not lose hope. Sometimes things in our lives take a lot longer than we expect, but we have to have hope and believe that everything will work out for the best.
There are lessons to learnt from every experience. I choose to believe that someone will read your letter and give you the land that you’re asking to rent.
In the meantime, I would advise you to discuss your plight with the chairman of the Constituency Council in your area, and the Member of Parliament for your constituency. They should both be able to point you in the right direction.
– Christine
