Barbados’ Pan Am medal haul is complete at two.
High jumper Thorrold Murray failed to add to the country’s tally, easily missing out on a podium place after finishing 11th when he struggled to clear 2.15 metres during yesterday’s action of the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Murray appeared to be cruising at one point, having easily sailed over the bar at 2.05 and 2.10 on one attempt each. But the lanky 21-year-old had three knockdowns at the very next height, relegating him down the field as ten other jumpers progressed past 2.15.
Up to Press time, the men’s hockey team were trailing 9-0 in their 5-8 classification game against hosts Mexico.
Barbados will finish the games’ 16th edition with two medals – one coming by way of Shakera Reece’s 11.26 national record in the women’s 100 metres, and the other via boxer Anderson Emmanuel who reached the semi-final in the heavyweight category. It bettered the aquamarine and gold’s one bronze medal in 2007.
