James Paul is back on the job as chief executive officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS).
After being voted back into the post on Saturday by the newly elected board at a stormy meeting, an upbeat Paul, who was ousted by the former board at the end of September, said yesterday “I am back.”
Asked whether the issue of his removal was now behind him, he said: “As far as I’m concerned, it is.
The new board has made its decision.
“To that extent, we at the BAS have a lot to catch up on, including Agrofest (slated for February next year). We also have to look at what we can do to better the lot of some farmers out there.
“Our priority is farmers . . . so the work continues,” he told the DAILY NATION from his office at The Grotto on Beckles Road, St Michael.
Paul added that he did not anticipate any further problems with the new BAS board, headed by president Carlisle Brathwaite, first vice president Woodville Alleyne-Jones and second vice-president Andrew Gill. They were elected at a meeting at which several BAS members and farmers walked out.
“The board has its work to do, and we are here to facilitate,” added Paul, whose CEO post had been made redundant by the outgoing board.
Paul, who is also Member of Parliament for St Michael West Central, acknowledged at that time that a decision had been taken to sever him but he had not received a letter giving reasons for his dismissal.
