Defending league kings RBC/RBTT Deacons and knockout queens Chargers continued their unbeaten trek towards their respective 2011 league crowns when volleyball action continued Wednesday night at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex.
Hardly extending themselves, Deacons whipped O’Aces 25-17, 25-23, 25-20 to move to a maximum 40 points from eight games. With Elwyn Oxley probably focusing on his commitment in this weekend’s Sizzlin’ Sands action at Brandons, Deacons young guns, Kyle Browne and Sheldon Roach blazed the hyped but unpenatrative O-Aces unit.
O-Aces, who actually scored a win over Deacons in the knockout and statistically led the league in the early stages, have now slumped to fifth with 17 points from a 3-6 record. Â
Cawmere regained the third spot by coming from a set down to deny the BNB Juniors 22-25, 25-12, 25-16, 28-26. Cawmere hold a 5-3 record and 26 points. Progressive are 4-3 with 23 points. The Juniors remain in the cellar with three points after losing either games. Â
Chargers’ women notched up the maximum 35 points from seven matches by stomping Safe Security Carlton 25-19, 25-16, 25-15. Carlton’s eight matches have now equalled their eight points. Â
The battle for the women’s third spot was as expected closely fought between Toners and Warrens even if it tossed up some mystifying scores.
Toners crushed Warrens at five in the first set and 20 in the second, before losing the match 25-5, 25-20, 20-25, 14-25, 6-15.
The Toners won the first-round battle and they still hold the third spot with 26 points from nine games. Warrens remain fourth with 22 points from eight matches. The Rockets are 6-1 with 31 points, while Deacons are 5-2 with 28.
Below Warrens are Carlton with eight points and Plus The Club, on five points after playing and losing nine games.
