Pleased teacher

A young teeacher has sued a Government secondary school and won after being overlooked for a vacant position more than a year ago.
The Court last week officially published its landmark judgment in favour of Wismar Gibson, who is now teaching at Foundation School but applied for a vacancy to teach English at The Lodge while acting in a temporary position.
However, after a successful interview, he was assigned to another temporary post and another applicant was given the vacant job.
The National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), acting on Gibson’s behalf, took the matter to attorney Veronica McFarlane, and Justice Jacqueline Cornelius gave a default judgment in Gibson’s favour after the respondents – the board of management and principal of The Lodge School – did not appear in court to defend the matter.
