STOP?SENDING?the letters and face me!
That is the message 45-year-old Evadney Turney is sending to the anonymous person who has been writing her threatening letters almost on a daily basis.
Since October 3, the postman has been delivering the disturbing mail to her house. Turney said this had left her angry, under stress and unable to concentrate on her work.
She said the “scandalous”, handwritten letters, which were four and five pages long, contained information such as that she had HIV, that she was a thief and other untrue statements.
The person also calls her dirty names and writes things such as, “You want killing and going to Westbury Cemetery without any flowers.”
Turney said judging from a number of work-related matters mentioned in the letters, she suspected that the person was someone she knew very well.
“I?took the letters to the police, but they have not been able to trace who the person is.”
However, she said, just before the letters started arriving in her mailbox, she and a woman had a confrontation.
“The police have been trying to track down this woman, but whenever they go to her house they are told that she is not at home”.
But Turney said the situation was also affecting her personal life and she suffered physical abuse at the hands of an individual because of what was contained in the letters. As a result, she was forced to seek a protection order from the court.
“These letters are malicious. They have me under stress and very depressed. Each time I?go home I?find another one. I had to go to the doctor, and I?was given medication to stabilize me so that I?would not trip.”
She said that she felt very uneasy since the letters contained threats of violence towards her.
“I just want the person to stop sending the letters and face me,” she said. (MB)
