TWENTY-ONE?-year-old Everdene Smart is the winner of the 2011 Richard Stoute Teen Talent Contest.
When the finals of the annual contest took place at the Plantation Garden on Sunday night, Smart nailed her performances as she sang When I Call On Jesus and Lord You’re Holy.
She received 822 points and topped a field of 15 finalists. Smart also earned herself the keys to a brand new Kia Picante, compliments McEnearny, in addition to an all expenses paid trip to perform at the Barbados Independence Festival Of Creative Arts (BIFCA) in Brooklyn, New York, on Saturday.
“I am proud of myself. I moved from not knowing what to sing when I entered the competition to finding songs I am comfortable singing, to winning it,” said a delighted Smart to the DAILY NATION after it was announced that she was the winner.
Second position went to 11-year-old Jakela Stoute who received 798 points. Jabarrie Hurdle placed third with 793 points. (AH)
