CASTRIES – Prime Minister Stephenson King today promised government support for the families of the 17 people who lost their lives in Thursday’s tragic vehicular accident in the west coast community of Choiseul.
Addressing the nation on the official day of mourning and remembrance, King said government was facilitating an ecumenical service in memory of the victims from 6 p.m. at the Baobab Park in Dugard, Micoud.
“On behalf of the people of St Lucia, government is committed to doing everything humanly possible to ease the pain of the bereaved and ensure their well-being, safety and comfort in the days ahead,” he said.
The prime minister said all burial expenses would be met by the state; and the families, households and communities affected by this tragedy would receive all the counselling, financial and other support they would need from the various agencies of government.
“Fellow St Lucians, we come together this weekend to ask our dear Lord to hear the cries of our deeply saddened hearts as we mourn the death of 17 of our brothers and sisters, who lost their lives in that tragic accident at Morne Sion,” King said. (CMC)
