BTA: Arrivals up 8%

Barbados’ has recorded an eight per cent increase in tourism arrivals for the first ten months of the year, compared with the corresponding period in 2010.
Between January and October this year 469 254 long-stay tourists visited Barbados, representing an increase of 34 223 over arrivals in the same period of 2010.
President of the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA), David Rice, made the disclosure during yesterday’s breakfast seminar at Ocean 2 Hotel in St Lawrence Gap, hosted for the travel agents from Oklahoma, Dallas and California on an American Airlines familiarization trip. He confirmed improved performance in almost every one of the island’s tourism source markets.
However, Rice reported that tourists were spending less. He said the BTA was creating activities to encourage visitors to spend more.
