No NIS burden!

Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler yesterday denied that the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) was being stretched beyond its limits, as Cabinet met in special session with top officials of the social security scheme.
The meeting at Government Headquarters came against the backdrop of robust national discussion over whether monies from the NIS should be used to fund the stalled Four Seasons development.
Officials described the talks as “useful”, telling the MIDWEEK NATION it was an opportunity to meet Cabinet’s desire to be apprised of the Four Seasons proposal, which is down for further consideration by the NIS Investment Committee today.
While some ministers reportedly expressed concern that putting NIS funds into Four Seasons may not be popular going into an election year, sources insisted there was no attempt to sway the NIS board one way or the other.
The committee is due to ratify a report prepared by investment analysts, which suggests the scheme should not go ahead with the proposed $50 million investment.
