SSA sides come to terms

The recent impasse between the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) and workers at Westbury Cemetery has forced the SSA to examine its framework.
Minister of the Environment Denis Lowe did not go into too many details when he spoke yesterday at the rededication of the chapel in Westbury Cemetery, but he said his ministry was able to “address and resolve some issues that were posing some unneeded stresses to the workers”.
“We were able to agree to the introduction of selected standards that will greatly assist in the management and execution of the work at the cemeteries,” Lowe added.
He said that from today all fees for services at public cemeteries would be done through the office of the SSA’s financial controller. And the SSA board has approved employment of labourers to assist gravediggers.
