They flicked the switch and in a change that ended the dominance of St Peter, St John became the toast of the 2011 Community Independence Celebrations.
Ambassadors Charlene Estwick and Shane Gibbons proved too much for their opponents Saturday night, emerging as Most Outstanding Ambassadors. They finished ahead of Christ Church, with St Lucy, who were joint winners last year, placing third and St Michael, fourth.
Estwick and Gibbons also won prizes for Best Presentation of the parish project and Project Of The Year. Omowale Stewart saw to the continuation of their winning ways, by taking the Designer’s Prize for their costumes titled Enlightening and Flick The Change Agent.
St John’s Andrea Burgess was first runner-up for Best Attendant (behind St Lucy’s Margot Wilkinson-King), while Edwin Craig took first prize for Kitchen Gardens, as did The Pride Of Wilson Hill for Mini-Parks. John Randolph took third place in Kitchen Gardens and Carmen Wiltshire, second in Contemporary Flower Gardens.
Here, Charlene and Shane bask in their win.
