Firm files marina lawsuit

IRISH FIRM Lagan Construction Limited has taken Government to court in a BDS$56 million lawsuit for breach of contract with the controversial Pierhead Marina Project.
The action, filed in the High Court over the past week, names the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc. (BTII) and the Attorney General as first and second defendants respectively.
Lagan is seeking general damages for breach of contract and/or loss of a chance in the sum of US$28 105 807; special damages of US$346 444, representing bid and relates costs; interests, costs and such further or other relief as the court may deem just.
In its claim, the construction firm pointed to late Prime Minister David Thompson and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister?Senator Darcy Boyce as being at the forefront of a Cabinet decision which sought to award the more than $130 million Pierhead Development Project to Signature Management Inc. (SMI), an international business company registered in St Lucia and Barbados in October 2009. (TS)
