Bajans one up

Barbados’s 13 and under cricket team drew first blood in their defence of the Inshan Ali Limited-Overs Trophy against Trinidad and Tobago yesterday.
Playing in their 40 over-a-side encounter at the Desmond Haynes Oval of the Carlton Cricket Club, the Bajans eased to a comfortable five-wicket victory over their opponents to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.
Led by a four-wicket haul from fast bowler Shakeel Turney, Barbados’ bowlers put the clamp on Trinidad’s batsmen from the opening delivery, after winning the toss and choosing to field, eventually dismissing them for 76 runs, before romping to 80 for five off 22 overs.
Things could have been much worse for the Trinidadians had it not been for the 22 extras which the home side’s bowlers gifted to them, as it easily surpassed the highest score by any of their batsmen. (RB)
