When the dust finally settles this evening at Kensington Oval, it will be an early Christmas gift for either Alexandra or Combermere. The two sides are vying for the title in the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) BNB RightStart Sir Everton Weekes Under-13 Competition.
The 35 overs aside final is schedule to bowl off at noon and it will see a clash of town against country.
Defending champions Combermere are appearing in a record ninth final and they have won it on five occasions the most overall. It is the first shot at the trophy for Alexandra, based at Queen Street in St Peter.
History favours the Waterford lads but Alexandra should not be discounted and are sure to give to a good fight at the Oval where the final will be played for the first time ever in the history of the tournament which started in 1995.
The two sides have played unbeaten so far and this should make an interesting match-up. Combermere won Zone A and then totally out played Princess Margaret and Harrison College in the quarter-final and semi-final.
Their main contributions have come from Shian Brathwaite, Najee Holder, Thaddaeus Chase and off spinners Runeko Layne and Renaldo Callender. Callender was Man Of The Match in last year’s final against St Leonard’s. Layne bagged six for seven in the quarter- final against Princess Margaret last week. The duo of Brathwaite and Holder had half-centuries in the semi- final, while Chase had an even fifty against Foundation in series one when Holder also had an unbeaten 50.
Alexandra were winners of zone D and then had comfortably victories over St. George and Lester Vaughan in the knockout stage. Left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop is among the tournament’s leading all- round players with 10 wickets, 68 runs and four catches. He has been supported in the spin department by fellow left-arm spinner Kemar Burrowes.
Shaquon Cave has had some useful scores including two unbeaten knocks of 43 and 22. He also made a match-winning 36 in the semi- final.
