Barbados welcomed 248 visitors from Scandinavia yesterday and Tourism?Minister Richard Sealy said it showed the strategy to explore the British and European markets separately was working.
Sealy told a reception at Grantley Adams International Airport that the arrival of the TUI Nordic air charter service was a good development for south coast hotels which had not been faring as well as the luxury accommodations.
“It is good that the Scandinavians want the St Lawrence Gap/Oistins experience, and it therefore means opportunities for some of those players who have had it hard,” Sealy said, as he commended the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association and the Intimate Hotels Group “for negotiating the competitive rates.”
He said the TUI Nordic service was negotiated based purely on co-op marketing. “We are not supporting this flight via any revenue guarantee or any seat subsidies,” he stated.
