TEENAGERS IN BARBADOS are not as promiscuous as some make them out to be, says general secretary of the Evangelical Association of the Caribbean, Bishop Gerry Seale.
He was speaking to the DAILY NATION on the issue of whether outreach organizations advocating sexual abstinence among young people were effective.
He said research done by him in the evangelical churches in Barbados showed that 60 per cent of teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18 had not been sexually active in 2006 and that figure was very similar to the one UNICEF got in 2009-2010 in a survey done in the Eastern Caribbean among the general population.
“People are standing up and saying all the young people are having sex . . . . [This] is not borne out by the research I have done and the research UNICEF has done . . . .
“There are some young people who are quite promiscuous, and some are definitely not,” Seale said. (JS)
