Bakery group seals deal

A local bakery is in the mix of an international deal that has been prepared just in time for the Christmas season.
Shareholders of the Tortuga Barbados/Baker’s Choice have joined investors in three other subsidiaries of popular rum cake company Tortuga in consolidating their regional interests into a new international food group, Tortuga International Holdings Ltd.
The Wildey Industrial Park-based bakery is run by Denis Foster.
The other companies involved in the deal are Tortuga Imports Inc. of Miami, Florida; Tortuga Rum Company Ltd, of the Cayman Islands; and Tortuga CRC Jamaica Ltd.
Jamaica Producers Group Ltd, an established international specialty foods group, has also made a strategic investment in the new group.
