Yachtsman in need

A German yachtsman on a solo Atlantic crossing limped into Barbados’ waters Wednesday after losing his mast 1 170 miles off the island.
Wener Hohmuth, 59, who speaks little English, told the MIDWEEK NATION yesterday that he was also low on fuel and food.
“I need diesel. The ship is 31 years old. I have rice and noodles and tomatoes to eat. I like Barbados. I like the temperature and the water on my skin,” he said.
Hohmuth left Germany on November 20.
His vessel is now berthed off the Barbados Yacht Club, Bay Street.
He said that he had contacted his family to notify them of his whereabouts.
