ENGLISH VISITOR Shirley Wright-Devlin is in Barbados for the first time.
However, what makes her story unique is that her aunt, Mandy Norville, who has been living here for 28 years, said it was all a result of personal tragedy.
“Her mother, my sister, died this year and I had a car crash last Christmas, so it put life into perspective,” she said.
Norville, of Kingsland Terrace, Christ Church, said she had been “begging” her niece to come here to no avail but now she was here they would pack as much as possible into the week or so she was spending.
“I’m so excited and thrilled, I can’t wait to show her the island; I know she will want to come again,” she said.
Norville kept her word, as mere hours after Wright-Devlin arrived on Thursday, she had whisked her away to the Crystal Waters Guesthouse and Bar for a taste of local rum.
When the SATURDAY SUN caught up with the pair, Wright-Devlin was caught by surprise as she had no idea she was going to be featured in the newspaper.
“I want to swim with the turtles and see the proper life. I want to live like a Barbadian, not from a hotel; I want to experience what Mandy has been for the past 28 years. Plus, I also want to see her son Oliver [Norville], my cousin,” she said.
As for her thoughts on her aunt, she said: “This lady has the best heart. She hasn’t got much but she has a heart of gold.” (CA)
