Nurses at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital reported there were more on the way but up to the time a DAILY NATION team visited the hospital, around midday, four mothers had already given birth.
Donna Wilkinson gave birth to her third child, Deriko Sargeant, at 1:59 a.m yesterday. Both she and her bundle of joy weighing eight pounds, four ounces were doing just fine.
“I feel good, maybe a little hot. My baby was due January 5, so I wasn’t expecting it today but I am happy he is a New Year’s baby,” she said.
Shequila Collymore said her third child, a six-pound baby girl named Narisha Roach, came just when everyone wanted her to although she said it was her most difficult birth.
“She was due for January 4 but everybody wanted her to be a New Year’s baby, including me,” she said.
Born at 8:26 a.m yesterday, Narisha joins her sisters Nakira, five, and Niara, two, to complete mum’s trio of “N” girls.
Richeene Dasha Daniel-Cadogan said having her first child was a painful process but it was worth it to hold her daughter in her hands. However, she said she did not want any more children.
She said Dasha Rakyah Mayers was born at 7:40 a.m yesterday weighing eight pounds, four ounces. Daniel-Cadogan said little Dasha was due December 31 but she felt great her daughter held on for an extra day to become a New Year’s baby.
Arlene Henry had yet to decide a name for her precious baby boy of six pounds, 14 ounces.
She said he was her second child; she has a two-year-old named Ajani. She said her first birth was easier.
Her son was born at 5:35 a.m yesterday but was due January 21. Henry said both she and her son were doing just fine.
“I feel good, I’m ready to go home,” she said. (CA)
