DLP COLUMN: Silly season predictions

As the silly season draws near, the public can expect a series of dramatic events all overplayed and sensationalized by the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) to capture the imagination of the public.
We were reliably informed that the Male Club has taken to the road and were recently seen at the recent Barbados Turf Club race day looking very out of character. It is clear that attempts are being made by some to dust off the leader and make him shine, even if his ball has lost the shine after 45 overs.
Prediction No. 1 We are predicting that very soon the BLP will have a Press conference to announce plans to take the its message to the highways and byways. This will come in the form of political meetings intended to jump the Democratic Labour Party (DLP). This strategy has been unsucccessfully tried before. These “Conversations with the Nation”, as they were once dubbed, will be rebranded as the BLP seeks to capture the loyalist who never misses an opportunity to recall the old days in Government.
Prediction No. 2 The leader of the BLP will rush to have the candidate selection process completed in full to give the impression that the 30 members are in concert with the leader. We already know that Rawle Eastmond will be forced out of St James North, and if he refuses he will be taken to task publicly. We are all well aware of what the current leader is good at in public when he squirts out his invectives and innuendoes. Barbados witnessed time after time how Mia Mottley was dealt the kiss of death.
Prediction No. 3 Another attempt will be made to mend the political fence in public with Mia. Her recent showing in the Pelican Football tournament has located her as a mobilizer of resources, both human and capital. However, we are quite aware that Mia’s strong principled stance on political morality will guide her decision not to reunite. One thing is sure: she was not inviting any of them for the Pelican Football presentation photos.
Prediction No. 4 The Female Club in the BLP will strike back come September 2012 . Mia has an ally in Rommell Marshall who has joined forces with the pro-Mia faction. We all know how he feels about Arthur and the dislike he has for his namesake in St Joseph.
Prediction No. 5 The leader of the BLP will call out our party leader Freundel Stuart. He will urge on the public to become distracted by putting a case for the calling of general elections. He has interpreted recent actions in the DLP as a sign for him to step up his game. He also felt with the death of former party leader and Prime Minister David Thompson that he had been afforded another opportunity. However, much to his dismay, chaos did not reign in the DLP, and it will not now.
Analysis None of the above predictions locate the BLP as having an interest in the welfare of this country or the improved quality of life for Barbadians. They all point to self-interest. This is the true political DNA of the election machinery called the BLP. They exist to fight elections, not to transform the lives of the people.
We distance ourselves from that, as we give expression to the genesis of the development of modern political parties. We were born out of a desire to see change, and that continues to be our compass.
