Been there, done that.
That is the response from president of the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) Mary Redman to those who are saying the more than 30 striking teachers from Alexandra School should get on with the business of teaching children and settle the differences between them and principal Jeff Broomes in another manner.
“The Ministry (of Education) is demonstrating that they cannot deal with the matter, that they cannot deal with Broomes,” she said.
“We have been there and done that already, we have gone back to work. We have gone back to work when he was allowed to go away for seven weeks, when he should have been addressing the issues . . . .
“He came back, we continued our meetings, then the meetings were stopped. We kept calling, we wrote. Nothing . . . . We know that he cannot remain there and issues be addressed. We have been there and done that.”
She said the BSTU has learnt the hard way from experience, and cannot go back on this particular issue.
