Road tennis fans are expected to flock to the Deighton “Pa” Roach Centre in Bush Hall tonight as the National Sports Council’s Inter- Parish Islandwide competition reaches the semi-final stage.
St Michael will face off against St George with the deadly duo of Jeffrey “Borah” Best and Julian “Michael Jackson” White carrying the standard for defending champions St Michael.
That parish is also very strong in the veterans’ division, with the likes of Jeffrey “Bing Crosby” Layne and the England-based Edward “Dabo” Carrington campaigning for a clean sweep.
Cardinal Beckles and Goulbourne Bailey are strong contenders for St George in the veterans, while Terry Dottin has shown that he is prepared to meet White or Best head-on.
The action begins at 7 p.m.
Christ Church will meet St John in the other semi tomorrow night at Vauxhall, Christ Church.
On Sunday night, the veterans held sway in Bush Hall with some keen tussles in which St James and St Philip were eliminated.
Bailey took out Rudy Gill of St Philip 21-10, 18-21, 21-18 and Beckles gave St George the 2-0 sweep by beating Oneal Bryan 21-16, 21-12.
Trevor Benn of St Michael defeated Kerry Francis of St Lucy in a “B” Division clash 17-21, 21-12, 21-8, while Neil Greaves, also of St Lucy, went down to Simeon Yearwood 12-21, 21-14, 17-21.
Christ Church and St Peter took one game each. Jefferson Scantlebury of St Peter edged Simon Bayne 23-21, 26-24 before Christ Church came back with Gary Thomas stopping Marlon Edwards 16-21, 21-15, 21-9.
Wendell Husbands of St John beat Edwin Ward of St James 21-10, 21-17, and Anthony Edwards, also of St John, defeated Lloyd Deane 21-15, 13-21, 21-17. (KB)
