Teachers head to the streets

THE 30-plus striking teachers at Alexandra School are taking their fight to the streets tomorrow from as early as 9 a.m.
This stepped-up action follows the partial withdrawal of labour from the luncheon period at the schools today where the Barbados Secondary Teacher’s Association (BSTU) has representation.
In a slight departure from the original plan, teachers from Harrison College, Queen’s College and Alleyne were forced to join their colleagues at Alexandra at the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union Belleville, St Michael headquarters after they were informed via posted memo, and meetings with the individual principals that they would not sanction a union meeting after lunch. The memo was read to staff at most schools.
Teachers at Coleridge and Parry continued their meeting outside of the school compound with BSTU president Mary Redman in attendance.
