The Barbados Worker’s Union (BWU) is throwing its full support behind the Barbados Secretary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) in its fight against the management of Alexandra School as well as its protest against the Personnel Administration Division of Civil Service.
In a prepared statement released today, the BWU said it was “saddened to find that Barbados is yet again reducing an issue that relates to the fundamental human and trade union rights into a popularity contest”.
“The BWU is aware that there have been festering problems at Alexandra going back several years. The general secretary of the BWU in his capacity as president of Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados (CTUSAB), along with CTUSAB general secretary Denis Depeiza had offered to mediate…,” said the statement signed by Sir Roy Trotman General Secretary of the BWU.
He said the offer to mediate the impasse was rejected by the advisers of Jeff Broomes, principal of the Alexandra School.
