THE?TEAM?of?Patrick Hungerford, Gabriele Hungerford, Robert Cathery and Tim Kemp revelled in their 15 minutes of fame on Friday night at Sandy Lane’s Golf and Country Club after they captured the Sandy Lane Charitable Trust Golf Event for 2012.
In front of a large group of their – including living hero The Right Excellent Sir Garfield Sobers and construction mogul Sir Charles Williams – Hungerford indicated that everyone was bestowed 15 minutes of fame.
And they got their turn in the spotlight as they received the winners’ trophies from Gay Smith of the Sandy Lane Trust.
The Hungerford team racked up 91 points to leave the team of Pat Desmond, David Shoebottom, Cathy Shoebottom and Ian Woosnam in the second spot.
Third was the squad of Ron Noades, Novello Noades, John Hargreaves and Derek Crowson.
No one was able to score the hole in one on the 18th hole to drive away with a brand-new car but even in the rainy conditions which affected the play on the links, some outstanding performances were still turned in.
Gail Long lived up to her name by winning the Ladies’ Longest Drive on hole seven.
Ian Woosman followed suit on hole ten.
Nearest to the pin was taken by Pamela Hiles at hole four, while Ansari Muhajiri achieved that honour for the men at hole 16. (KB)
