ARIMA – Teenage Barbadian apprentice jockey Antonio Whitehall lit up Santa Rosa Park over the weekend.
Whitehall logged a trio of wins for veteran owner/trainer Harold Chadeeon on the eight-race card during the lull in action at his home track, the Garrison Savannah in Barbados.
Whitehall opened his account in the very first race of the day worth just over US$3 300 aboard eight-year-old bay mare Angelica Jane, who completed the 1 200-metre sprint in one minute, 16.2 seconds, finishing 1¾ lengths ahead of the field.
Whitehall had to wait until the US$5 500 sixth race for his second success, when he took the four-year-old bay colt Smart American to his second straight victory in a 1 100m sprint. The pair dismissed the field by 2¾ lengths in 1 min, 07.3 secs.
Whitehall completed his day’s work with a 3½-length victory on the three-year-old chestnut filly It Got To Be Me over 1 100 metres.
He survived an enquiry in the stewards’ room before being awarded the victory, which was completed in 1:06.3. (CMC)
