Trinidad may soon be able to execute the death penalty if Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar follows through with the reintroduction of the necessary legislation. Prime Minister Persad Bissessar issued a pledge to bring to pass the legislation that will allow for the easy implementation of the death penalty. This comes amid an increase in murders in Trinidad and Tobago. Addressing the national security planning workshop yesterday, the Trinidad and Tobago prime minister said her coalition People’s Partnership administration had prepared a package of crime legislation to address crime in the oil rich twin island republic. She said some of the legislation had already been introduced in Parliament, including the DNA bill and the Electronic Monitoring Bill. She said her administration is committed to the vigorous pursuit of those people who are inclined to violate the rights of innocent people.
