The Alexandra School Parent Teacher Association has welcomed the return to classes of teachers from tomorrow, but took exemption to Prime Minister Freundel Stuart’s statement that they had involved their wards in the impasse.
In a statement last night, the PTA’s executive committee stated that they “take strong issue with the Prime Minister’s statement that we dragged our children into this ordeal ‘kicking and screaming’ . . . .
“The fact is the teachers dragged our children into this when they walked off the job. As a result of their actions, our children have been greatly disadvantaged.
“We are expecting a clear action plan from the Ministry of Education and/or the teachers as to how the lost hours will be recovered without undue stress.
“We recognise the need for healing and we intend to facilitate this process in every way we can,” the PTA statement said, while announcing a meeting will be held with all parents from 5 p.m. today at the school.
In welcoming back the 30-plus teachers who were on strike for 14 days, the PTA also thanked principal Jeff Broomes and the 22 teachers “who remained on the job to care for our children”. (SP)
